Abandoned skyscrapers would after hundreds of years, become "vertical ecosystems" complete with birds, rodents and even plant life. A particular small animal might be responsible for bringing down the Hoover Dam hydroelectric plant. Swelled rivers, crumbling bridges and buildings, grizzly bears in California and herds of buffalo returning to the Great Western Plains: in a world without humans, these would be the visual hallmarks. Our cars would shrivel to piles of dust, our house pets would be overtaken by flourishing wildlife, and most of the records of our human story—books, photos, records—would fade quickly, leaving little record that we ever existed.

Wrong, humans R the sole problem on the planet Agent Smith (Matrix) was right when he said "that humans r like a virus, they move 2 new areas and multiply and consume every bit of natural resources until its all gone, the only way we survive is 2 spread 2 other areas." We don't keep a natural order of things. We r making animals xtinct just 2 suit our fuckin needs, we mercilessly kill and xploit animals.
The only things humans know how 2 is 2 make more humans and fuckup the earth.

I disagree partially. Humans in concentrated areas(and in large numbers), Yes this is true. Take the Indians in North America for instance, they lived off the land, killing only what they needed to survive, and wasted nothing. Assuming it weren't for "Americans", I could see how an Indian tribe could live atleast 3fold as long as the "new human race" will.

Fiction? Not likely. Reality? Possibly. there are lots of theories out there about how and when this might happen, but only one thing is certain: it will happen sooner or later. We don't appreciate what we have and by the time we realize what we've done to ourselves, it will be too late to change anything. I just hope that our children's children will still enjoy a summer's rain, a morning's breeze, the smell of flowers or the fresh mountain air.
